Socks are quick victim of wear and tear – centuries old problem not solved yet. Why?

Everyday morning in a hurry up mode to go to office, I don’t pay attention to what is happening to my socks. Almost all socks have holes and I have to keep in mind NOT to take out my shoes in any case.

In fact, I like to take off the shoes in the workplace which I can’t do. I have undercover survey and found that many people have their socks in torn state near the foot thumb and other fingers. So, this problem of torn socks is not just mine and many are finding the same problem. So, this needs to be addressed.

There is no manual available with the socks. Oops. The sock manufacturer will not be bothered to provide manual and reduce their sale. That’s the business. Okie, leave it.

I checked on the net and found that Albert Einstein never wear socks.

To Einstein, socks were a pain because they often would get holes in them. Plus, why wear both socks and shoes when one of them would do just fine?

So, this problem is centuries old. Even, it was a problem addressed by Einstein. So now, it is interesting to find the solution.

Socks are torn with foot thumb/finger nails. And I don’t cut them regularly the way I do cut for nails for my hands. Hmmm.. So, if I regularly cut my nails for my foot it will extend the life of socks. And that’s the simple solution I can follow. But it will be hard to tell everyone and not everyone will follow it. So, I have to find some other practical solution.

The cotton stuffing near the nailing space of socks can extend the life. This cotton stuffing will lessen the impact of sharpness of nails to the socks and will extend its life. This looks to be practical.

The socks manufacturer can make such cotton stuffed socks and very well capture the market. Customers will buy such socks that come with life-long replacement warranty card. Is n’t it? Further even if the pricing of socks is doubled by the manufacturer, customer will still buy it.

Now, we are able to solve one problem that it will not get holes. But there is another problem addressed with Einstein that why wear both socks and shoes when one of them would do just fine.

The human foot is among the heavier producer of sweat in the body. With more than 250,000 sweat glands each, human feet are among the most perspiring parts of the body. Socks help to absorb this sweat and draw it to areas where air can evaporate the perspiration. That’s the job of socks and that’s why the socks stink. If socks will not be there, the feet will stink more badly.

The socks manufacturers should make such socks that don’t torn and solve the centuries old problem. This sock design will after all make the socks manufacturer to get the higher profits, so make business sense.

Interesting Fact about a Sock Manufacturer: It was an embarrassing situation with torn socks at a Japanese Tea house that led entrepreneur Samy Liechti to form the company Black Socks.  His genius idea?  Provide men sockscriptions, where 3 pairs of black socks are delivered by mail every few months.

I don’t want to say but the above interesting fact does not solve the underlying problem – socks get torn.

I have another problem if you can find the solution. What should I do with my present torn state socks? The utility should be equal or higher than utility of socks.

Do you think in future fashion designers will bring trend for torn state socks just like we see torn state jeans as a trend today?
